Delivery £9.90 on cable and charger orders. Built to order and sent from the UK workshop.

A loose charging cable for public chargers and wall boxes with a socket. Pick the rating, the length and the colour, and Wottz build it to order in their Buckinghamshire workshop.

Type 2 to Type 2 suits almost every EV sold in the UK since 2018, Tesla included. The 7.4kW cable is the one for home wall boxes and most public posts. The 22kW cable carries three phase as well, for cars that can take faster AC charging at work or on a public post.

Each cable is tested before it leaves the workshop. The Type 2 plugs have silver coated contacts rated for 10,000 plug cycles, and the plugs are IP54 when connected, so the cable can live outside but should be kept out of puddles. Fit the dust cover when it is not in use, because damp in the pins is what kills most charging cables.

Older car with a five pin Type 1 socket, such as a 2011 to 2017 Nissan Leaf or an Outlander PHEV? You need our Type 1 to Type 2 charging cable instead.

Need more than 10m? Every length up to 50m is priced on our long charging cables page.

Using it safely and looking after it

We had a sample cable in before we listed the range. In the box with it came Wottz's printed quick start and safety guide, and a dust cap on each plug. These are the points from that guide that matter day to day.

Before you plug in

  • Check the cable and both plugs. Don't use it if anything is damaged or there is corrosion on the pins.
  • Uncoil the whole cable, even when the car is parked right next to the charge point.
  • Make sure the pins are dry.
  • Take the cap off the charge point end and plug it in, then do the same at the car. Check both plugs have locked.
  • Never force a plug in. If something is in the way, clear it first.

While the car charges

  • Lay the cable where nobody will trip on it, a car won't drive over it and a door won't shut on it.
  • Don't stand on it, pull on it or let it kink.
  • Keep pressure washers away from the car and the cable.
  • If a plug gets very hot, stop charging and stop using that cable.
  • It is made for AC charging at a charge point or wall box. Never use it as an extension lead.

Unplugging

Unplug at the car first, close the car's charge flap and cap that plug. Then unplug at the charge point and cap the other end. Pull on the plug, never on the cable.

Cleaning and storing

Clean it only when it is unplugged at both ends, and use a dry cloth. No water, no abrasive cleaners, no pressure or steam washers. Never put it in water or dry it with a heater or hair dryer.

Store it with both caps on, somewhere clean and dry, off the ground and untangled. A plug and cable holder on the wall or a carry bag in the boot does the job, and replacement dust caps are here if one goes missing.

Don't try to repair or modify a damaged cable: replace it. When it reaches the end of its life, take it to an electrical recycling point rather than putting it in the bin.
