A loose charging cable for Type 1 cars: the Type 1 plug goes in the car, the Type 2 plug goes in the public post or wall box. Pick the length and colour, and Wottz build it to order in their Buckinghamshire workshop.
A Type 1 socket has five pins in a round housing. You find it on older cars such as the 2011 to 2017 Nissan Leaf, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the first Kia Soul EV. Almost every UK public post and untethered wall box has a Type 2 socket, so this is the cable those cars need to charge away from home.
Type 1 is single phase, so 7.4kW is the most a Type 1 car can take, and there is no faster version to buy. Lengths run from 2m to 10m. 5m reaches a public post from any normal parking bay.
Each cable is tested before it leaves the workshop. The plugs are IP54 when connected, so the cable can live outside but should be kept out of puddles. Fit the dust cover when it is not in use, because damp in the pins is what kills most charging cables.
Your car has a Type 2 socket? You need our Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable instead.

Using it safely and looking after it
We had a sample cable in before we listed the range. In the box with it came Wottz's printed quick start and safety guide, and a dust cap on each plug. These are the points from that guide that matter day to day.
Before you plug in
- Check the cable and both plugs. Don't use it if anything is damaged or there is corrosion on the pins.
- Uncoil the whole cable, even when the car is parked right next to the charge point.
- Make sure the pins are dry.
- Take the cap off the charge point end and plug it in, then do the same at the car. Check both plugs have locked.
- Never force a plug in. If something is in the way, clear it first.
While the car charges
- Lay the cable where nobody will trip on it, a car won't drive over it and a door won't shut on it.
- Don't stand on it, pull on it or let it kink.
- Keep pressure washers away from the car and the cable.
- If a plug gets very hot, stop charging and stop using that cable.
- It is made for AC charging at a charge point or wall box. Never use it as an extension lead.
Unplugging
Unplug at the car first, close the car's charge flap and cap that plug. Then unplug at the charge point and cap the other end. Pull on the plug, never on the cable.
Cleaning and storing
Clean it only when it is unplugged at both ends, and use a dry cloth. No water, no abrasive cleaners, no pressure or steam washers. Never put it in water or dry it with a heater or hair dryer.
Store it with both caps on, somewhere clean and dry, off the ground and untangled. A plug and cable holder on the wall or a carry bag in the boot does the job, and replacement dust caps are here if one goes missing.
Don't try to repair or modify a damaged cable: replace it. When it reaches the end of its life, take it to an electrical recycling point rather than putting it in the bin.
